On 29 December 2022, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie (Ex-TC Ellie) moved into the Kimberley Region as a tropical low. Over 10 days the system produced heavy rainfall and flooding throughout the central Kimberley resulting in major flooding of the Martuwarra/Fitzroy River and several smaller rivers including the Barnett and Lennard. The floods resulted in significant damage in the central Fitzroy catchment encompassing the Traditional lands of the Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Nyikina Mangala, Walmajarri and Ngarinyin-Wilinggin peoples.

As part of the transition from initial emergency response to recovery phase, agdots facilitated a workshop with key stakeholders from the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley, the Fitzroy Valley Flood Recovery Working Group and DFES to inform the development of a Local Operational Recovery Plan (LORP). This document identified objectives, actions, governance arrangements, resources and priorities for the Fitzroy Catchment, and will assist the Local Government in their recovery efforts.
